Botox Treatments Offer a Wrinkle-Free Face for a Youthful Look
As we age, many women—even men—seek to improve their facial appearance through the removal of unwanted wrinkles. You may see advertisements everywhere for Botox injections to banish unsightly neckbands, clear away irksome crow’s feet and remove unwanted wrinkles. However, do you really understand the Botox treatment? Yes, large amounts of people are having Botox injections to regain a more youthful appearance, and so can you. Botox is one of the most recent and most exciting advances for the treatment of wrinkles, lines, and the aging face. Discover the proven results that over 11 million men and women have experienced with Botox.
Let’s take a Closer look at Botox
Introduced to the world in the late 1980s by ophthalmologists, Botox was first used to treat optic muscle disorders. In 2002, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Botox for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Every since the FDA’s approval in 2002, Botox has soared in popularity among both men and women, remaining as one of the top five nonsurgical cosmetic procedures performed each year.
Unlike soft tissue fillers such as Juvederm that add volume to skin depressions, Botox blocks the release of a chemical called acetylcholine which triggers the muscle contractions that create wrinkles. Botox essentially paralyzes the muscles and stops them from contracting, with results that are visible within approximately one week after treatment and remain for a minimum of three months.
Botox cosmetic treatments can be used to improve worry lines in your forehead, lines between your eyebrows, smile lines, laugh lines—from nose to mouth—and crow’s feet. Other added benefits of Botox injections include the improvement of migraine headaches, reduction of excessive sweating, improvement in chronic back and jaw pain, and relief and relaxation of muscle twitches. Anyone in generally good health who has fairly shallow fine lines and wrinkles may be good candidates for Botox treatments.
Understanding The Botox Procedure
Botox works to relax the contraction of muscles by blocking nerve impulses. The result is muscles that can no longer contract, relaxing and softening your wrinkles. Typically, it will take two to four days to see cosmetic improvement with results that can last anywhere from four to six months. Most patients require retreatment to remove wrinkles and lines as they begin to reappear, but after each injection the wrinkles return as less severe as the muscles are trained to relax.
The procedure does not require anesthesia and usually takes just a few minutes to perform. The protein is injected into the muscle using a fine needle in order to minimize discomfort and maximize accuracy. It is recommended that patients avoid alcohol for approximately a week before the procedure. In order to minimize bruising, patients should stop using aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications about two weeks before their treatment. You can resume normal activities immediately, but your dermatologist may advise you to stay out of the sun.
Everyone has unique expressions, and as we move our facial muscles in a repetitive way over time those repetitive movements can cause wrinkles and fine lines. No one likes the fact that those lines make them look and feel older than they really are. Botox treatments can help both men and women rejuvenate and revitalize their appearance.
Talk to your Charleston, SC dermatologist if you are interested in Botox. Your dermatologist will be able to discuss the procedure and help you decide if Botox is an appropriate treatment for improving the appearance of your skin.
